When Akki prayed
Actor Akshay Kumar aka Rajeev Hari Om Bhatia has always been proud of his Punjabi roots, so when trouble came knocking at his door before the release of his movie “Singh Is Kinng”, he quickly paid a visit to Gurudwara Rakab Ganj near Central Secretariat in Delhi to sort the matter, and this place of worship suddenly shot into the limelight.
Just before the movie’s release in 2008, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) sought a ban on the film in Delhi as they felt that the movie could hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community; they’d taken umbrage to the film’s posters which showed Akshay sporting a turban and a trimmed beard.

Akki landed in Delhi with great alacrity “to explain and apologize”.
After the visit to the Gurudwara, Akshay had said, “It’s about discussion. They wanted to take precautionary measure regarding the community’s image and they’re right. We came here, explained ourselves and apologized. It is always good to satisfy everyone.”
